TAKE ACTION
THE OTHER SIDE Team partnered with Ethiopian organizations to design a companion guide to deepen conversation and inspire personal action after viewing the film. Within are important facts and stories about vulnerable children in Ethiopia, just like Abel. You are encouraged to:
Consider the causes behind this orphan crisis.
Reflect on how COVID-19 exacerbates the consequences of the orphan crisis.
Take action to support local solutions for these children.
about oce:
Orphan Care Ethiopia (OCE) is a philanthropic, not-for-profit organization with the single mission of improving the lives of orphans in Ethiopia through local advocacy, education, and the financial support of agencies and individuals fighting the orphan crisis locally. The Board of Directors have a targeted goal for 100% of all funds raised to be directed toward this goal, and aim to change lives by breaking the chain of poverty and hopelessness.
OCE is governed by a volunteer board of directors that provides oversight; they implement volunteer-based programs in Ethiopia to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of vulnerable children living in orphanages, on the street, and in the community.
Approximately 300 volunteers from diverse backgrounds devote their time and resources to serve with OCE in the United States and Ethiopia.
The Other Side encourages individuals to join OCE in providing a "local" solution to the orphan crisis in Ethiopia. We stand alongside their belief that the orphan crisis is best addressed by those who live in the community, know the community’s assets and needs, and have a passion for seeing the lives of vulnerable children transformed through holistic solutions.
